THE TAURUS: RC HISTORY SAVED
We recently bumped into Terry Terrenoire, treasurer for the Vintage R/C Society (VR/CS), who told us a very
interesting story about a famous piece of RC modeling history. It seemed that Ed Kazmirski’s original 1962
Nats-winning Taurus had recently been placed on eBay by a person who acquired it after attending an estate
sale. As soon as the VR/CS folks learned about the online auction, several officers sprang into action.
There was also an Asian-based, vintage RC model collector placing bids on the Taurus, so the electronic
bidding war became fast and furious! Ultimately, the VR/CS won the auction and Ed’s Taurus was saved
from export. The plan now is for the VR/CS to put the Taurus on tour and display it in the organization’s
booth at various tradeshows until ultimately, the VR/CS donates this historical RC plane to the AMA
museum in Muncie, IN. Ed and his Taurus were featured on the January 1963 cover of MAN and the
construction plans and article were also featured in that issue.
