Tail surface control servos and the Spektrum receiver
have plenty of room for installation.
THE PITTS 12 WAS

AEROBATICS AND THIS

Top wing is in place bolted to preinstalled blind nuts
on fuselage and struts.
Unique features
The covering on the Pitts 12 is exceptional,
right down to the trim. No wrinkles to be
fixed upon arrival made it a nice change
of pace. Every blind nut that is installed is
affixed to a doubler piece of wood instead
of the usual installation in a drilled hole.
This provides an extra layer of protection
and security not usually found in a kit at
this price point or size. The plane is easily
transported in one piece because of its
size, and access to the radio and battery
is great because of the easily removable
large canopy/cockpit assembly. There is no
worry about setting the incidence of the
two wings with this kit because pre-drilled
mounts and fixed cabine struts ensure per-
fect alignment—a very welcome feature!
There is one head-scratcher during motor
installation, but the sidebar addresses
that. I assembled this ARF so quickly I
had to double-check to be sure I had done
everything! I used the power system rec-
ommended by BP Hobbies, an A2814-8
brushless outrunner, and it’s well-matched
to the plane and provides great perfor-
mance. I’ve flown it with both 3S and 4S
packs and their recommended props and
found the Pitts 12 to be very good in both
configurations.
;is is the fun part! With 290 square
inches of wing area and a wing loading of
just over 23 ounces per square foot, the
Since I fly from a grass field, I was concerned about the small
wheels and wheel pants, but it turned out fine once I opened up the
pants a bit to give the wheels more room. ;ey are small, though, so I
pull it o; the ground quickly. I’ll probably remove the pants when the
longer summer grass comes in.

GENERAL FLIGHT CHARACTERISTICS
PILOT DEBRIEFING
;is is a heck of a little biplane and if you like multiple wings, you’ve
got to love the looks of this o;ering from BP Hobbies. It was more than
a handful initially, but if you’re an experienced flier, you can use the
recommended settings and tune it from there. I would recommend
dialing them back for the test flight and increasing them as you get
more comfortable with the characteristics. ;is Pitts 12 looks great in
the air and on the ground, and it isn’t modeled as often as its brother
the Pitts S2.
