hunting up and down. I was impressed
with the way that it sets itself in the air,
looking very much like a heavy World
War II fighter.
Aerobatics: ;e 15-size motor puts out
plenty of power for scalelike maneuvers. It
does not have unlimited vertical, but there
is plenty of power. Rolls are more axial
than most warbirds. If the elevator is eased
a little at the top, the loops look really nice
and fairly large. It will do everything in the
Stall and Glide Performance: ;e plane will
glide farther and faster than expected. I
found no tendency to tip-stall, and stalls
break cleanly, straight ahead.
For landings, I use full flaps. I have the
flaps set on a three-position switch for
up, takeo;, and landing positions. I set the
flap servos for a two-second deployment,
which helps eliminate ballooning when the
flaps are deployed.
;e P- 47 builds quickly; in less than an
evening, you will get it in the air because
there’s no glue to wait to set. ;ere are only
four main components, and everything
else is done for the modeler. It took me
longer to read the manuals than to put the
Jug together. Anyone with basic skills will
have this bird together in no time. I highly
recommend it. ;
BACK IN THE DAY
More than 20 years ago, I built a P- 47 with a 33-inch wingspan, powered by a .10-size
control line engine, and with 3-channel control: aileron, rudder, and elevator. This plane
flew at full throttle until its 4-ounce tank ran dry. This resulted in quite the adrenaline
rush. The airplane was so nice that I didn’t want to damage it, so it has spent most of
its life as a display model in my shop. The new E-flite P- 47 solves the issues that we
had “back in the day.” Its new stabilization technology makes flying small warbirds
more fun and relaxing compared to my 20-year-old dust collector.
Shown here is the

gear and the battery pack, which fits into a compartment shown here to the right.
Above right: ;e tailwheel is also steerable, making ground handling a joy. Right: ;e tail
feathers come already hinged, and they slide into place over a support tube in the tail.
