advanced, patent-pending windflow technology available, the Firefly
is extremely sensitive—well beyond human perception of wind
movement. In just three seconds, over 1,500 wind measurements are
taken to determine the absolute wind direction with wind velocities
as low as one inch per second. Wind direction is shown with bright
LED lights. Using two AAA batteries, the lightweight, handheld Firefly
includes a weather-resistant cap and is available with a lanyard and
hard or soft shell protective cases. It will fit easily into your pocket or
your field box.
For any pilot, this unit is a quantum leap from the classic windsock
or even other handheld wind direction devices. Originally designed
with hunters in mind, this instrument can measure wind direction at
multiple points down the runway, determine swirling currents and
wind drift, and register thermals. Used indoors, it can determine wind
flows from heating and air conditioning vents hundreds of feet away.
