North Star
Tony Gillenwater, Colleyville, TX
Built from a Balsa USA kit, this 44-inch-span model is powered
by a Hyperion 4020-12 electric motor, Castle Creations
Phoenix Ice 100, two 6S 6000mAh LiPos, and a 12x10 prop for
a whopping 91% e;ciency rating! ;is electric mod requires
a higher vertical stabilizer, a small scoop under the cowl for
airflow, and a redesigned area under the canopy for the
batteries.
Hawker Hurricane
Sam Hart, Mount Vernon, IL
Sam built this 70-inch-span fighter using Brian Taylor plans from Bob Holman and
used WarbirdColors paint to create the scale scheme. ;e model is powered by an
O.S. . 91 Surpass engine and has hybrid landing gear from Century Jet with Robart
RoboStruts.
J- 3 Piper Cub
Marc Williams, Twin Falls, ID
;is 1/3-scale Cub started life as an Aircraft Modelers Research kit. It’s decked out in
Solartex covering with PolyFiber aircraft paint and is powered by a Moki 100 BVT twin
cylinder gas engine. Marc got this shot between splash and gos at Bear Lake, ID.
Vector 40
Paul Taylor, Collierville, TN
;is is a Brodak laser-cut kit designed by Randy Smith, and
the vector is covered with silk, polyspan, and Brodak dope. It’s
powered by an O.S. 46LA engine. Paul writes that this plane
flies great, and he has the second place ribbon in intermediate
control-line precision aerobatics to prove it!
