Tactic TTX650
four programmable mixes.
Though this review deals with the Aircraft
programming, there is also a full array of
advanced features for the heli pilot including four swash types (one servo, two servo
180, three servo 120, and three servo 140),
pitch curves, gyro mixing, swash mixing,
a throttle mixer, a rudder mixer, and programmable swash ring limiting.
As a giant-scale flier, I prefer the following functions:
• Four airplane wing types
• Tail type with V-tail and delta mixing
• Dual elevator servo mixing
• Aileron differential
• Auto shutoff ( 10 minutes if no stick
movement)
;e main display screen is easy to read. Here you see the familiar Dual Rates/Expo setup screen with graphical
display.
Finding your way around
For most, the feeling of whether or not you
like a radio all boils down to how easy it
is to program and navigate its menus. The
TTX650 is very user-friendly and I was
able to quickly find my way around the
programming screens even before opening up the instruction manual. From the
home page that appears when you switch
on the radio, press the “Enter” button and
hold it for two seconds. This brings you the
“Model Setup” screen. Here you’ll find the
Model Select, Model Management, Wing
Type, Channel Assignment, Warnings,
Trainer, and Trim Settings sub menus. Use
the + and – buttons to scroll up and down
the list, then hit “Enter” to select the function you want.
For servo adjustments, hit the “Enter”
button and quickly release it to bring up
the “Settings” screen. Here you can find
the Servo Set, Dual, Expo, Channel 5, and
Channel 6 Set, Throttle Curve, Throttle
Cut, Aileron Mixer, Rudder Mixer, Programmable Mixer, RF Output, and Timer
sub-menus. Pressing the “Servo” button
brings up the “Servo Monitor” screen.
;e programming menu is easy to follow. Here the
Settings screen is called up and the Servo Set sub
menu highlighted.
;e programming is very well organized. Here on
the “Model Setup” screen you find all you need to
program your model.
;e Tactic 650 is
compatible with all of
the Tactic SLT 2.4GHz
receivers and the
TR624 (not included,)
is an excellent
6-channel receiver
to pair with the
transmitter.
First time out
For a typical sport-flyer airplane, you
would first hit enter and hold it to go to
“Model Management.” There you can
select the model type and enter the model
name. Hit the Escape (ESC) button to back
out of the sub-menu, and then scroll down
to choose the wing type. There, you can
select the tail type settings (Normal, V-tail,
Delta, or 2 Elevator Servos) and the wing
type settings (one Aileron Servo, 1 Aileron Servo/1 Flap Servo, 2 Aileron Servos,
and 2 Ailerons Servos/ 1 Flap Servo). After
this, back out of the sub-menus, and then
quickly hit Enter and release to call up “
Settings.” This is where you go about setting
your servo reverse, dual rate and expo, the
throttle curves and cut settings, differential and the various mixers including those
for flap, air brake, and the programmable
mixers, as well as the timer function.
Bottom line
The new Tactic TTX650 programmable
2.4GHz radio is a very easy-to-use, economical radio system that has a lot of
advanced features and is an excellent value
for the beginner and intermediate RC pilot.
Its display is very easy to view and the programming layout is intuitive and simple to
navigate. If you are ready to step up to the
freedom and flexibility a programmable
radio has to offer, the TTX650 from Tactic
is a perfect place to start. I highly recommend it. ;
